Volgo's Rep Activity Report.

Report on Physical Examination’s Crash Course (CVS, Respiratory System and GIT)

Date : 4th November 2008

Venue : Aktovi Zal, Medical Hostel No 4, Hiroshima 8, Volgograd

Present :

Tutor:

  • 1) Dr Muhd Hilmi Afandi Md Jamil
  • 2) Dr Noor Azimah Ab Aziz
  • 3) Dr Siti Iliana Mohamad

Participant:

Approximately 40 students (sorry, we didn’t get their name registered)

Tentative :

10.00 am – Arrivals of participants

10.15 am – Doa recitation by Dr Muhd Hilmi Afandi Md Jamil

10.20 am – Briefing by Dr Siti Iliana Mohamad

10.30 am to 2.00 pm – Discussion

We didn’t expect that much participant on the first place but Alhamdulillah everything went smoothly till the end, (except the part that we were scolded by the duty mama because we supposed to end the session before 1 o’clock, of course). But it didn’t distract us much as everyone was so eager to listen, look and learn from the tutor (luckily we had a rehearsal the night before- so I think we have given our best for all the participants).

So this was how things were done; we divided them into 4 groups, and they rotated the 4 stations in turn (which also mean that every tutor had to repeat their presentation 4 times!)

Station 1 : CVS with Dr Muhd Hilmi Afandi Md Jamil

Station 2 : Respiratory system with Dr Noor Azimah Ab Aziz

Station 3 : GIT with Dr Siti Iliana Mohamad

Station 4 : Rest and some minutes to flip through Talley O’Connor, or watch the CD

The scheme of PE’s technique and how to present patient was based on HUSM medical school’s syllabus (Phase II Professional Exam) and Talley O’Connor clinical examination text book. But we tried our best to include some Russian techniques too, eg percussion of the heart .

All together the steps was rather cumbersome, and perhaps we wouldn’t have enough time to examine fully each of our (future) patients, but it is crucial for us (to remember the steps and the possible signs by hard) so that we won’t miss any important signs the patients had. And more practically, to know how to proceed with necessary examination based on patient’s complaint.

The feedback we got was very positive, and everyone is looking forward to have another session. Orthopedic or Neurological examination, perhaps!

Sunathon Felda Sri Jaya, Muar 2008.

the whole program was hilarious right from the start.
the meeting at a friend's house in ampang till the very last moment of the
closing ceremony in the prestigious main hall of that infamous village for the homestay program of 3 days 2 nights.

the feelings of nervousness and not much confidence filled us.
yes, the butterflies had been flying around the stomach ever since we planned this very first project in moscow.

the orphans program went extremely well as this was our first time handli
ng counselling-like agenda.
dedicated to the orphans aged between 9 to 14 and to the single moms too.
almost three hours of the first night was spent wisely between all of us.
tears running down their cheeks (and even mine!) were proven that we did it!

we like them and of course, vice versa too.

the peak of the program was the next day.
technical problems were settled fast by the MA (medical asistant) students, the KK (klinik kesihatan) of that area and one of the big hospital in that district.

everyone had the chance of completing the procedure from A to Z.
to some, no guts yet, but next time, will do.

we took turns in assisting each other and some of us had found what we are good at, and what we are not.
kids were extremely hyperactive and some just couldn't bear to see the instruments used.

the evening was spent cam-whoring by his 400D and his new 450D which makes us so magnetic everytime the shutter button is pressed.
well said, photographer knows best but posers knows better. (it depends actually)

of course, Nisfu Syaaban was an option for us because our mind and body could not cope with anything after that.
imagine 36 kids circumsized by only 14 medic students.
it sounds so little, but we had to do all by ourselves except that the start is done by the handsome Dr Aznil, pregnant Dr. XXX, actor-like Dr. Muaz (or so..).

the village people were so cool to all of us.
frankly speaking, the could mix around so well with strangers.
that's how comunities work. anywhere and everywhere.

continuing the next day which is more to a community services made from house to house, guided by the representative of the village.
statistic taken and most of the villagers are prone to get hypertension, diabetes and stroke, which is common to malaysians due to the meals and junks taken daily.
but youngsters are now aware of the importance of taking extra care of their health as they do not want these disease to attack them by the age of 30 plus.

there were even really 'nice' cases (i will have to refer back to the clerking paper) that put us in awe.

the closing ceremony of course were made as simple as possible.
but the ketua kampung and his people gave their full commitment in handling our team.
plaques were given and the selawat by the ketua kampung made us shed our tears when we hugged and embraced the foster parents of ours.

more pictures, click ( here ).

hope to see more activities here in Moscow and in Malaysia later.
any infos, get yourself updated from here!

Teaching Hospital and Summer Practical

Salam to the RMT-ians.

Amirah had met Prof. Latiff on Monday, 29th June 2008
regarding the teaching hospital and about summer practical session.
Unfortunately, practical at HUKM has been canceled
and our dear Prof is currently arranging us at Terendak Camp Hospital.
Accommodation will be provided and situated near the beach (i do not know what beach)
and transportation is needed as the hospital is grounded about 7km from the place we are going to stay.
Payment about RM200 for each student for maybe a week or two of the practical.
Whoever wish to register for a week or two (recommend: two weeks) or want to cancel your names
kindly inform Jalwati Amirah at;

  • 03-42954720 (H)
  • 019-3102328 (HP)
Those who think that they are going to go there by your own transport
and is very generous to spare for a week or two for our transport,
please give your names too to Amirah.

We are going to train ourselves with CUCMS students
and Prof. Latiff hopes that we could blend in and get along with them.
We are also allowed and invited to attend CUCMS's theory classes.

Please give your names as soon as possible before Thursday or Friday
to make the arrangement smoother.
Your help and commitment is greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Happy holidays people!
